February 03, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. pleaded not guilty to the additional 15 murder cases lodged against him in connection with the Maguindanao massacre last Nov.23.. Ampatuan, assisted by his lawyer Sigfrid Fortun, entered the plea during the continuation of his bail hearing at Camp Crame in the courtroom of Quezon City Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes. The additional charges were brought to Manila from the Cotabato City Regional Trial Court. Ampatuan has earlier pleaded not guilty for the 41 murder cases filed against him by state prosecutors for the Nov. 23 carnage. Meanwhile, Ampatuan, in light blue polo shirt, was later excused by the court as his legal counsel requested him not to be present since the following testimony to be given by a prosecution witness will involve technical evidence. He was escorted by heavily armed NBI agents out of Crame to his detention cell in Manila.
